Afternoon in the Shire
In this oil painting I wanted to illustrate a sunny, late summer afternoon in the Shire - September weather looked like this this year in Poland! The leaves just starting to get a yellowish or brown tint, long slanted beams of sunlight and dappled green lawns. I love impressionism masters and spent a lot of time in my youth browsing albums with the works of Monet, Renoir and their contemporaries.
This sunlight, the mother calling the children home for dinner, the running barefoot in the grass, all remind me of summers spent at my Grandma's in the countryside. Her huge old orchard had just the same dappled sunlight and long shadows in the evenings when the air was getting colder and it was time to go get warmer clothes!
50x70 cm canvas stretched on a wooden frame, varnished. (approx. 20"x27.5") Traditionally hand painted artwork in oil technique, varnished and signed, shipping from my studio in Poland. Made by Anna Kulisz Yoo in 2026.
